Because different problems respond to different tools. A "modality" is just a structured approach to therapy, developed and studied for particular kinds of concerns.
The names pile up - CBT, DBT, ACT, psychodynamic and more - which makes the field look more intimidating than it is. You do not need to master the taxonomy to get help; you need a rough sense of the main ones so you can recognize what a therapist is offering and why.
That is what this guide is for, not turning you into your own clinician.
