The quick answerThe Wegovy pill costs $149 for the first month, then $299 a month, plus a $39-then-$74-149 membership at Ro - the one telehealth price we have verified. Novo Nordisk's direct-pay tiers are reported at $149 for the starting dose up to $299 at the maintenance dose. With commercial insurance that covers Wegovy, the manufacturer's savings offer is reported to bring it to as low as $25 a month; on Medicare, the GLP-1 Bridge pilot charges a flat $50 through December 2027. Every route requires a prescription.Ro's prices are its own published figures, verified August 2026. Manufacturer prices are as reported by the dated sources linked in the article and are not verified by us.

Key takeaways

  • The Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide 25 mg) was FDA-approved in December 2025 as the first oral GLP-1 for chronic weight management. It is prescription-only, and the price depends on the route: telehealth, the manufacturer's direct-pay pharmacy, insurance or Medicare.
  • Verified telehealth route: Ro sells the Wegovy pill at $149 for the first month, then $299 a month, plus its Body membership ($39 the first month, then $74-$149 a month). Because Ro bills the medication separately, insurance can apply where your plan covers Wegovy.
  • Novo Nordisk's own direct-pay tiers are reported by third-party trackers at $149 a month for the starting dose, rising to $299 at the maintenance dose. We have not verified those figures ourselves - confirm them with NovoCare before you budget.
  • With commercial insurance that covers Wegovy, the manufacturer's savings offer is reported to bring the pill to as low as $25 a month. On Medicare, the GLP-1 Bridge pilot charges a flat $50 copay through December 2027. Compounded semaglutide - a different, non-FDA-approved product - runs $49-$199 a month at verified prices.

What does the Wegovy pill cost online?

Four routes, four very different numbers. The only figure in this table we have verified ourselves is ro's, from its published pricing in August 2026. The manufacturer figures are as reported by the dated sources linked in the right-hand column; Novo Nordisk sells direct through its NovoCare Pharmacy, and trackers disagree on one of the middle tiers, so confirm the price for your dose with NovoCare before you commit.

embody offers doctor-prescribed GLP-1 weight loss treatment - compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide injections - through a 100% online process. Getting started takes a roughly 5-minute health qualifier, after which a medical practitioner reviews your chart (embody says usually within 24 hours, often under 5). Pricing is flat and simple: $69/month for semaglutide and $119/month for tirzepatide, with no insurance required, no hidden fees, and no clinic visits. Medication ships in 1-2 days in temperature-controlled, tracked, insured packaging, and embody is LegitScript-certified and works with US-based 503A compounding pharmacies. On Trustpilot, embody averages 3.8 across 8,398 reviews - an honest, mixed-to-positive record whose recent reviews cluster around two themes: responsive, proactive customer service ('from my very first inquiry I've had excellent communication... customer service updated me every step,' writes one tirzepatide patient) and the no-surprises pricing ('Love the fact that there are no surprises as in costly up front cost'). A 3.7 also means a minority of customers had negative experiences - worth reading both ends of the reviews before deciding, as with any provider.

from $89/month

altRx bills itself as "the #1 most affordable GLP-1 program," and its published prices largely back that up: compounded GLP-1 (semaglutide) from $89/month and GLP-1 + GIP (tirzepatide) from $149/month - flat at every dose, so the price doesn't climb as you titrate up - alongside one of the few genuine brand-name shelves in this space (Ozempic $1,149, Zepbound $1,249, Wegovy $1,579 per month). It's a self-pay telehealth service: you complete a short assessment, a licensed provider (physician, PA, or nurse practitioner) reviews it, and if appropriate a prescription goes to a licensed US pharmacy, with free shipping in about 5-7 days. No insurance is required, Buy Now, Pay Later is available, and you can pause or cancel anytime. Two things to know before the details: shipping is slower than the 1-2 day providers (embody, DirectMeds), and Trustpilot does not currently display an aggregate score on altRx's profile - the individual reviews we quote on this page are real, but there's no independent average to lean on the way there is for rivals like Medvi (4.3 across 14,836) or embody (3.8 across 8,398). One of the real 4-star reviews we surface notes a refill 'yet to be fulfilled with zero reason as to why' - worth factoring in alongside the price advantage.

Why does the Wegovy pill price go up after the first month?

Because the dose does. The Wegovy pill is taken once a day and started low, then stepped up over the first months to the 25 mg maintenance dose that produced the trial results.

The reported NovoCare tiers follow that ladder: the lowest price belongs to the starting dose, the $299 price to the dose you stay on. ro's published structure says the same thing in two numbers - $149 the first month, $299 after - and adds a membership next to it. Put together at ro's cash prices, a first year comes to roughly $4,300-$5,100 depending on which membership tier you land on: $3,438 of medication plus $853-$1,678 of membership.

That is the number to compare against the alternatives, not the $149. Our month 1 vs year one guide does the same arithmetic for every provider we track.

Can insurance or Medicare bring the Wegovy pill price down?

Yes, and for many people these are the routes that matter most. Commercial insurance. If your plan covers Wegovy for weight management, the manufacturer's savings offer is reported to cut the copay to as low as $25 a month, capped at $100 of savings per 30-day supply, for commercially insured adults in the US; the offer excludes anyone on a government plan. Coverage is the gate: many plans still exclude weight-management GLP-1s or require prior authorisation, and our insurance guide walks through checking your formulary first. ro's route is built for this case, because it bills the pill as its own line item that a plan can pay its share of. Medicare. Since July 1, 2026, the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge pilot charges eligible beneficiaries a flat $50 copay for the Wegovy pill and injection, the Zepbound KwikPen and Foundayo, through December 31, 2027.

The $50 does not rise with the dose. Eligibility runs through clinical criteria and an approval step via your Part D plan - GLP-1s after 65 covers what to ask.

How does the Wegovy pill price compare with the Wegovy injection?

At the dose you stay on, the two are priced close together at the telehealth route we have verified. ro sells the Wegovy pen from $199 a month at introductory rates, rising to $299-$399 a month after, next to the pill's $149-then-$299, with the same membership on top of either. Through Novo Nordisk's direct-pay pharmacy, trackers report the injection at $349 a month, with a lower introductory price on the first fills; again, reported rather than verified by us.

The choice between them is therefore mostly not about price. In OASIS 4, the pill produced 13.6% mean weight loss at 64 weeks against 2.2% on placebo in the analysis that counts everyone randomised (16.6% among those who stayed on treatment), which the authors describe as similar to the weekly 2.4 mg injection in its own trial.

The practical difference is the routine: a daily tablet taken on an empty stomach with a sip of water and a 30-minute wait before food, versus one injection a week. GLP-1 pills vs injections sets the two side by side.

What To Know Before Starting GLP-1 Treatment

Before starting GLP-1 treatment, it's important to understand a few key things. These medications require a prescription from a licensed clinician and aren't suitable for everyone. Some people may experience side effects, especially during the first few weeks as the body adjusts.

GLP-1s also tend to work best when combined with basic lifestyle habits like balanced nutrition and regular physical activity.

That's why choosing a provider that offers proper medical screening and ongoing follow-up support is essential for both safety and long-term success.

Is the Wegovy pill worth it compared with compounded semaglutide?

They are not the same product, so the comparison is value, not price alone. The Wegovy pill is Novo Nordisk's FDA-approved finished drug, with its own trial behind it.

Compounded semaglutide is the same molecule prepared by a licensed 503A pharmacy for an individual prescription - a legal, regulated channel whose output the FDA does not review product by product, and which has no trials of its own; it is also almost always an injection, not a tablet. At verified published prices it runs $49 a month at wellmedr on a 12-month plan, $69 month to month at embody, $89 flat at altRx and $99 all-inclusive at Medvi, up to $199.

The year-one gap against the Wegovy pill at cash prices is therefore several thousand dollars - unless insurance or Medicare applies, in which case the brand pill at $25-$50 a month becomes the cheapest FDA-approved option on this site. The trade-offs are set out in compounded vs brand-name.

Which Wegovy pill route is cheapest for you?

Work down your situation. Commercial insurance covers Wegovy: use the savings offer through a route that bills the medication separately - ro, or your own pharmacy - and expect $25 a month if the reported terms hold. On Medicare: ask your Part D plan about the GLP-1 Bridge before pricing anything else; $50 flat beats every cash figure here. Paying cash and you want the FDA-approved pill: compare ro's $149-then-$299 plus membership against NovoCare's reported tiers for your dose, and get the month-2 price in writing before you pay. Paying cash and the molecule matters more than the label: compounded semaglutide from $49-$99 a month, with the caveats above. Needle-averse but open to another pill: Eli Lilly's Foundayo lists $149-$349 a month self-pay and has no food or water timing rules - Foundayo vs the Wegovy pill compares them.

The bottom line

The Wegovy pill price online in 2026 is $149 for the first month, then $299, plus membership at ro - the one figure on this page we have verified - with Novo Nordisk's direct-pay tiers reported in the same $149-$299 range, as low as $25 with commercial coverage and $50 on Medicare's pilot. Those last two are the numbers that change the decision, so check coverage first.

Every route requires a prescription, and a licensed clinician decides whether semaglutide is appropriate for you. This article is general information, not medical advice.
